Bullpen Report Launches: The First Cross-Team Pitch Count & Arm Health Tracker for Youth Baseball
Bullpen Report is officially live. Starting today, coaches and parents can track a youth pitcher's arm workload across every team he plays for — not just the one game a single coach happens to see — in one free, mobile-friendly app built on MLB's Pitch Smart guidelines.
The problem: no coach sees the whole picture
Most youth pitchers today don't play for just one team. A 10-year-old might throw for his rec league on Wednesday, a travel team on Saturday, and a fall-ball squad the following Tuesday — with three different coaches, none of whom know what the other two saw. Pitch count apps and scorekeeping tools like GameChanger track games well, but they track them one team at a time. The moment a kid pitches for a second team, that visibility disappears.
This isn't a small gap. Research has found that a large majority of youth teams aren't fully following Pitch Smart's own daily pitch limits and rest-day requirements — and one clear driver is that no one asked the question "who else did this kid pitch for this week?" Meanwhile, the average age of Tommy John surgery patients keeps dropping: more than half of these surgeries are now performed on athletes between 15 and 19, and roughly a third of current MLB pitchers have had the procedure at some point in their career. Overuse injury in young, still-developing arms isn't a professional-level problem anymore — it's a Tuesday-night rec-league problem.
What Bullpen Report actually does
Bullpen Report solves the cross-team blind spot directly. Every pitcher gets a permanent BR Player ID — a unique identifier any coach can search to find that player's real, complete pitch history, regardless of which team logged it. When a coach logs an outing, it's visible to every other coach and parent connected to that player, automatically.
On top of that shared history, Bullpen Report calculates:
- ARM STATUS — a simple green/yellow/red read on whether a pitcher is cleared to throw today, based on the Pitch Smart 3-consecutive-days rule and required rest days by pitch count
- Cross-team weekly load — total pitches thrown across every team, so a "light" Tuesday outing doesn't get thrown on top of a heavy weekend tournament nobody else knew about
- Rest-day tracking — automatic countdowns so parents and coaches both know exactly when a pitcher is cleared to take the mound again
Pitch Smart daily maximums (the foundation everything else is built on)
| Age | Daily Max (Pitches) |
|---|---|
| 7–8 | 50 |
| 9–10 | 75 |
| 11–12 | 85 |
| 13–14 | 95 |
Rest requirements scale with how many pitches were thrown in the outing — from zero days for a light appearance up to four days after a max-effort outing. Bullpen Report applies these automatically every time an outing is logged, so nobody has to do the math by hand mid-tournament.
Who it's for
Coaches get a full-roster view of every pitcher's availability before they set a lineup — no more guessing whether a kid threw somewhere else this week. Coach plans start at $99/year for one team.
Parents get a free account, forever — unlimited players, full ARM STATUS tracking, and the ability to log outside outings (travel ball, lessons, tournaments) so their kid's full picture stays accurate no matter how many teams or coaches are involved. Parent Pro ($29/year or $2.99/month) adds advanced stats, ACWR workload trending, and AI-generated arm health insights.
Why we built this
Bullpen Report started as a personal problem, not a business plan. My son pitches for four different teams in a given season. Watching him get lined up for a Saturday start with no idea what he'd thrown on Wednesday — and realizing his coaches had no way to know either — made it obvious this wasn't a coaching failure, it was a missing tool. GameChanger runs the game. Bullpen Report protects the arm. They're not competing with each other; one just didn't exist yet for the cross-team problem.
FAQ
Is Bullpen Report free for parents?
Yes. The parent plan is free forever and includes unlimited players, ARM STATUS tracking, and outside-outing logging. Parent Pro is optional and adds advanced analytics.
How does Bullpen Report track pitches across multiple teams?
Every player gets a permanent BR Player ID. Any coach with access to that player can log an outing against it, and every linked parent and coach sees the combined history — regardless of which team logged which outing.
What age groups does Bullpen Report support?
Bullpen Report supports pitchers ages 7 and up using MLB's official Pitch Smart daily maximums and rest-day guidelines for those age groups.
Does Bullpen Report replace GameChanger?
